Euclid Art Association
60th Anniversary Celebration
Monday, September 10, 2018

Our 60th anniversary celebration was a BIG success.  EAA president, Lee Peters was so proud of everyone who organized, planned and set up this event.  He was surprised, yet thrilled, to see that over 60 members, previous demonstrators, guests and the Mayor of Euclid came to help us celebrate.

Everyone loved Lee’s presentation, “A Look Back”.  It was a nice combination of history and humor.  The videos that Lee included were put to perfect music and showed, in super high speed, setting up a Library Show and people moving through the refreshment line.  Both were entertaining and fun to watch.  The audience laughed watching Tom move quickly back & forth...repeat, repeat, repeat..., behind the food tables, always with a plate of goodies in his hand!  He became an instant video sensation!

After Lee’s presentation, it was especially nice that members stood up and talked about how they got involved with Euclid Art.  Lee ‘kicked’ it off and many others followed...very interesting.  We learned that in 1968-1969, Cheryl Brickman won many awards in Euclid Art Association's Spring Art Show, student division, held at Master’s Church.  She brought in her awards, framed, to share with us.  Carolyn Swaffield shared that she came to meetings for over 20 years with her mother-in-law, Marie Swaffield.  This triggered a memory in Jennifer Theil.  Maria was in her art class many years ago and Jennifer still had an unfinished painting by Marie, which will finally have a new home.   Rozenia became a member because of her good friend, Pat Snook, who she met at the Irish American Club.  And, Sue joined at the invitation of her neighbor, Hugh Megan, club historian and photographer.

Euclid Mayor Kristen Holzheimer Gail was next to speak and presented us with a Proclamation.  She gave a nice speech and stayed for the whole meeting.  Several artists, i.e., previous demonstrators, came . . . Jose Cintron (age 92), Peggy Wertheim, Cathy Welner, David & Deanna Rankin, Flo Smith, who joined EAA.  Interestingly, many of our members had Jose Cintron as their teacher.  Eddie said, “Jose Cintron was my first year life drawing instructor at CIA (1982-83) and my portrait painting teacher for my third, fourth & fifth years there (1985-1987).  A most inspiring and knowledgeable teacher to countless and grateful students.”  Terese took Jose’s class in portrait drawing at Cooper in the late 70's and said, “He was a wonderful teacher.”  Bernadette also had him as a teacher.

Great food was enjoyed by all and there was lots of it!  Thank you to Sandi and all her helpers!  The cake was exceptionally delicious, thank you Rozenia.  The various visuals were spectacular, from Rozenia’s beautiful photo mosaic, to Ellen’s famous paint brush and palette to Sue’s and Dennis’s posters.  And Mary Ann did an excellent job greeting all the members and guests as they came through the door.

Ellen told a cute story about Nancy & Ed and the photo mosaic . . . there was a magnifying glass next to the mosaic that said “Look for yourself”.  While Nancy’s husband was taking pictures, Nancy took the magnifier for a closer look, turning to Ellen, she said “I didn’t see myself. I just saw my dog!!  That beautiful mosaic was made up of thousands of individual pictures from EAA’s past and was definitely worth a closer look.

Overall.....a very successful evening!
